Expert Wood Rot Repair in Kansas City, MO

Wood rot repair is a core part of exterior painting work at Custom Finish Painting in Kansas City, MO. Kansas City's climate brings hot summers, wet springs, and freezing winters. That cycle of moisture and temperature change breaks down exterior wood over time. We inspect siding, trim boards, fascia, soffits, and window sills for soft or crumbling wood before any paint goes on. Rotted sections get removed and replaced so the new paint has a solid, sealed surface underneath. Skipping this step leads to paint failure in the same spots, season after season. Older Kansas City homes with wood siding or original trim are especially prone to rot around window frames and at the base of first-floor boards, where water collects and sits. We address the damaged wood first, then prime and paint the repaired areas to match the rest of the exterior. If you see soft spots, peeling paint, or bowing trim, call us for an exterior assessment.

Wood Rot Repair FAQ

Common questions about wood rot repair in Kansas City, MO.

Yes, rotted wood must be repaired before painting or the new paint will fail in the same spots. We inspect and fix damaged areas first so the paint job lasts.

Press on suspect trim or siding boards. If the wood feels soft, crumbles, or gives way, it likely has rot. Peeling paint in the same spot year after year is another common sign.

We check siding, window trim, sill noses, fascia boards, soffits, and door trim. These are the areas most exposed to moisture on Kansas City homes.

Minor surface rot on non-structural trim can sometimes be filled and sealed. Boards with deep or widespread decay are replaced so the repair holds up through Kansas City's wet seasons.

Yes, repaired sections are primed and painted to blend with the surrounding exterior. The finished result looks consistent across the whole surface.

Wood rot is one of the most common exterior issues on Kansas City homes, especially older ones with original wood trim or siding. Moisture from the region's variable climate is the main cause.

Great experience with Josh and his team. They fit us into the schedule quickly and the team did a great job with prep and paint. We love the way our house looks and get lots of compliments from the neighbors! Don't hesitate calling Josh and getting your project completed!

Our house is just 7 years old. Yet, the original contractor grade paint was rapidly showing signs of thinning and aging. I friend recommended Josh Quintana to me and I’m so glad he did. This was a major update to my house. New paint, new windows and new landscaping. Josh gladly accommodated the other contractor time lines. His crew immediately went to work when they could and they were very professional, diligent and the job site was always clean. The whole house was completed within 5 days. If you like great results at very fair pricing, call Custom Finish Painting.

Custom Finish Painting did a top quality job on our house. They removed rotted wood framing trim, cut and replaced wood trim around windows, added trim for a drip edge along the bottom of all of our siding around the house, scrapped, chalked, masked, and painted the house. Then, hand painted (with 2 coates!) all of the door and window trim work, front, sides, and back (at my request). Such a fantastic, beautiful job. The crew was very professional and efficient. Eric, the crew lead, did a great job directing everyone and was very easy to work with. Very friendly crew. Josh Quintana, the owner, was always checking with them and me to keep me informed and checking if things were going okay. Work was delayed a few days due to weather, but I was always informed. I've had neighbors take a picture of their sign in the yard for possible work. I would rehire Josh's company in a heartbeat, if and when I need my house worked on again. Thanks Josh! Great work and excellent customer service!

Our house is 12 years old and was due for a paint refresh. After entertaining several estimates we decided to go with Josh and his crew due primarily to the attention to detail in the estimate process. We are completely satisfied with the end result and astonished by the amount of prep work and attention to detail that was given to this project. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

We used Custom Finish Painting for our house painting project. We had quite a bit of needed siding and trim repairs before the painting could be done. We contacted a few companies for bids and none of them were as thorough. Josh came to our house and walked through every detail of the job. He let us know what materials they would be using as well as their processes. They caulk every nail head and seam no matter if it is cracking or not. His employees were very courteous of our property and worked very hard and paid attention to detail. The quote given by Josh was spot on and was the most thorough of a quote I’ve ever seen. Every spot on the house that needed repair had a picture taken and then highlighted and had a detailed description with each picture. EVERYTHING was done to spec. I have recommended this company to all my friends and anyone i hear needing paint. Absolutely the best painting company!!!!
